The Dodge Charger is back in a big way for 2012 and it has plenty of muscle behind to back it up. The new 2012 SRT8 Charger comes with a 6.4 liter Hemi V8 which is capable of producing 465 horsepower and 465 pound feet of torque. The Hemi will also get plenty of air thanks to an intake which features active air flaps that will vary the ram length based on how fast the engine is going. The engine and other features will take the Charger from zero to sixty in a solid 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 175 miles per hour. The engine is connected to a five speed automatic which is also connected to steering wheel mounted paddles.
There is also a new suspension in the 2012 Charger which will help to increase feel along with the hydraulic steering. The suspension will gather such data as steering angle and speed, vehicle speed, lateral acceleration and throttle position. In addition to the automatic setting, drivers can choose a Sport mode.
Of course, you also can't have a redesigned car without a redesigned exterior and interior and the folks at Dodge left no stone unturned. The new front end comes with aggressive styling and sports a blacked out grille and center section. The hood sports a reshaped power bulge, air exhaust vent and a badge proclaiming the 6.4 liter Hemi. The sides are new as well and even the rear has a new fascia which is between a spoiler and huge four inch diameter exhaust tips. In addition, the 2012 Charger comes with split spoke twenty inch aluminum wheels.
Inside the cabin is a flat bottom steering wheel which is exclusive to the SRT and comes with a special trim for the IP and shifter surround. The seats come with suede inserts and they come heated and cooled. Even the back seats come equipped with heaters.
There is also an impressive flat panel display which gives the driver information on steering input, horsepower, torque, braking acceleration and roadholding data. Other fun add-ons include keyless entry, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, rear cross path detection and a 900 watt, 19 speaker Harman/Kardon stereo.
